The German U19 national team will host Team Italy at Optima Sportpark in Schwäbisch Hall, Germany on Sunday, September 17, to decide fifth place in the 2023 IFAF Europe U19 Championships.
Team Germany last won the European title in 2008 while Italy claimed bronze in the inaugural tournament in 1992.
In Germany’s return to international competition after a multi-year absence, they were 28-12 winners over France in the previous round. The German squad had taken a comfortable lead against France but watched as the French cut a 14-point lead to two points before two unanswered touchdowns sealed victory for the visitors in Bordeaux. German quarterbacks Sebastian Schultz of the Berlin Adler and Lars Westphal from the Troisdorf Jets each threw and ran for a touchdown in the win.
Italy defeated Great Britain 34-0 in April to advance to this game by relying on a dominant ground game. Expect more of the same today.
