Mexico entered the final day of group games with a 1-1 record and subsequently won three straight by seeing off Canada 32-23, Brazil 56-26, and Argentina 42-12.
The men’s competition still has three group games to play at 9am on Friday to decide the final line up for the placement games, with only Canada having completed their slate, finishing 4-2. The Canadians will wait to see who emerges from a winner-takes-all game first thing on Friday to challenge them for the Bronze Medal as a pair of 2-3 teams Brazil and Panama bid to earn a place in the third-place game. Chile (1-4) and Argentina (0-5) await the losers of that game to play for fifth place overall.
