The 2015 IFAF Europe Women’s European Championships wind up today with three great medal matchups as Finland and Great Britain square off in the gold medal game (Kickoff 9 PM, 3 PM EDT). Germany will face Austria for the bronze medal at 11 AM (5 AM EDT) and then Sweden will battle the host country Spain for fifth and sixth spot in the first game of the day at 8 AM (2 AM EDT).
Gold Medal Game – Finland v. Great Britain
Kickoff: 9 PM (3 PM EDT)
Finland is ranked #1 and they have played like that. In their two games against Spain and Austria they have rolled up a total of 108 points and allowed no more than 25. Jenni Linden has been outstanding for the Finns scoring five touchdowns in their two games while also running for three two-point converts. Great Britain’s road to the final was more difficult, but they overcame a tough German team 17-6 and then took a 23-0 lead on Sweden into the fourth quarter before the Swedes could score. The final was 30-14. Joannah Kilby has thrown a total of three touchdown passes for Great Britain and scored one herself.
Bronze Medal Game – Germany v Austria
Kickoff: 11 AM (5 AM EDT)
Germany opened strong against Great Britain but still fell 17-6. The Germans came back against Sweden to win 22-12. Receiver Christina Schmidt has scored three touchdowns for Team Germany. Austria opened the tournament by beating Spain 21-6 but then lost to the powerful Finns 52-7. All four Austrian touchdowns were scored by Lisa Neubauer .
Fifth-Sixth Place Game – Sweden v Spain
Kickoff: 8 AM (2 AM EDT)
Sweden dropped both of their games in Group B by falling behind early to both Great Britain and Germany and having to play catch up in the fourth quarter. Receiver Linda Johansson caught three touchdown passes from quarterback Martina Karlsson in the 30-14 loss to Great Britain. Karlsson also tossed another touchdown pass in the 22-12 loss to Germany. Spain had a rough time against Finland in their opener losing 56-18 and then lost 21-6 to Austria. Allison Francis Rodriguez Vivas has scored three of Spain’s four touchdowns in the tournament.
