LIVESTREAM IFAF EC: Team Serbia @ Team Denmark, Aug. 5, 16:00 CET (4 pm, 10 am EDT)
The Danish national team will play host to Team Serbia in a key qualification battle as the International Federation of American Football European Championship tournament heads into the final stage.
The Danes from Group C were overwhelmed by Finland 60-13 but then beat the Czech Republic 45-40 while Serbia who have a 1-1 record in Group B, lost to Sweden 21-14 but turned around and defeated Team Switzerland 24-13.
The winner of this game will face the winner of the Great Britain-France contest in October to decide fifth place.
The last time these two nations faced each other in the European Championships was in 2013 when Denmark defeated the Serbs 38-10 in group play and eventually went on to win Group B.
Offensively, the Denmark brings back veteran offensive lineman Benjamin Qvist and receiver Thomas Zinck Thellufsen. One new face too the offense is young quarterback Christopher Bay Carstens of the Aarhus Tigers, who hopes to lead his team to victory Saturday.
On defense, veteran pass rusher Mads Marquard Nielsen and linebacker Mathias Eliasen, both of the Copenhagen Towers, will look to shut down a physical Team Serbia and earn shot at fifth place come this fall.
For Serbia, this will be a tough game. The team was forced to travel by bus from Serbia, roughly a 27 hour bus ride, due to a snafu, and no doubt will be feeling the trip in their legs come game time.
Head coach Predrag Šćekić has listed only one quarterback on his 45 man roster, Blue Dragons signal caller Miloš Simatović. Kragujevac Wild Boars (reigning Serbian champions) running back Stefan Todorović leads an impressive running back contingent and the Danish front seven will be put to the test.
Defensively, defensive back Dimitrije Novaković (Wild Boars) is a key in the secondary while linebackers Nikola Marković and Mihailo Prodanović , both also from the Wild Boars, anchor a solid front seven.
Team Serbia roster.
Despite the long bus ride, Team Serbia cannot be underestimated. The Serbians staged a comeback against Team Sweden in group play scoring with less than two minutes to go to narrow the gap but fell 21-14. Still, Denmark has the edge.
