The Solent Thrashers (2-5) head to SGS WISE, Filton to face the SGS Bristol Aztecs (4-1) for the second straight weekend as Great Britain’s Premiership passes the midpoint of the season.

The two teams faced each other last weekend in Southampton and the Aztecs flexed their muscles handing the Thrashers an embarrassing 48-7 loss. The visitors took an early lead with a sneak from Great Britain TE Sean Cook and didn’t look back, going on to score 48 unanswered points before Solent could find the scoreboard.

Bristol found success once again through their stacked backfield rotation, as well as a great performance from QB Louis Benzey – who actually came up through the Solent academy team, the Solent Seahawks. 

Solent managed to put a score on the board in the dying moments of the game after a trick play which saw Birks line up in the backfield to take a pitch from QB Dayle Greenfield, completing the deep ball to a wide open Matt Hewlett. A roughing-the-kicker call on fourth down then gave them a fresh set of downs in the redzone, where Greenfield was able to run the ball in himself.

With the Aztecs needing to keep up their winning ways to earn a playoff spot, they will be looking for another statement win, while Solent will be playing for pride, needing to win out to come away from 2023 with a .500 record.
