The BUCS Premier League semifinals weekend will kick off with a repeat of last year’s semifinal as the University of West England Bullets (1) play host to Leeds Beckett Carnegie (2) in Filton at Hillside Sports Gardens.
Leeds Beckett are coming off a 12-0 win over the Birmingham Lions, who entered the playoffs as the third seed in the South with a 2-6 record. The Lions had twice faced the Bullets in the regular season, including a 98-0 home loss, so LBU will be hoping they caught the Lions on a better day if they want a shot at upsetting the defending champions.
UWE’s first playoff game was a 52-0 win over Loughborough in what was actually one of the Bullets’ worst-looking offensive performances of the year, even seeing Jadrian Clark turn the ball over for the first time of the year alongside multiple passes that would have been picked off by higher level defensive backs.
