Livestream: GFL – Marburg Mercenaries @Munich Cowboys, August 18, 4p (10a ET)
The Munich Cowboys (4-7) will play host to the Marburg Mercenaries (5-5) August 18 at Dante Stadion in Munich, Germany in a do or die German Football League game.
The Cowboys have won two of their last three games while Marburg have lost three games in a row. A Marburg win would pretty much end the season for Munich while a Cowboys victory would pull Munich within a game of the Mercenaries in the race for the final playoff berth in the GFL South.
The two teams met back in late May with Marburg coming out on top 33-30. In that game, the two teams combined for 833 yards in total offense with Silas Nacita scoring a touchdown with 10 seconds left for Marburg to win the game. Nacita had a monster game that day with 351 all purpose yards including 192 yards receiving and three touchdowns.
Munich quarterback Trenton Miller is averaging 240.5 yards passing per game, third best among all quarterbacks. However, he is the entire offense as the Cowboys running game is anemic averaging just 26.4 yards a game. Wide receiver, Kai Silbermann is the third leading receiver in Germany in overall yardage with 911 yards on 61 catches.
Marburg has their third quarterback since playing the Cowboys with an injury to Alexander Thury. His replacement, Robert Webber, left after only one game and Nacita took over for a total of four games winning two. Zac Cunha from Minot State. Cunha made his debut two weeks ago in a loss to the Allgau Comets, completing 26 of 46 passes for 269 yards and two touchdowns. Last week, in a losing effort against the Frankfurt Universe he threw for only 115 yards. He replaced Mr. All-Everything for the Mercenaries, Silas Nacita who had stepped in after Webber, left suddenly after one game. Nacita engineered a win over the Comets putting on an offensive display playing at quarterback Nacita then led Marburg to a win over the Ingolstadt Dukes and was also behind center in the final game before the break, a loss to the Schwabisch Hall Unicorns. Nacita was also the primary receiver last week against Allgau with six receptions for 71 yards.
Nacita leads the Mercenaries in rushing with 601 yards and six touchdowns, has thrown for 652 yards and 10 touchdowns and has caught 43 passes for 633 yards and six touchdowns. He has also returned nine punts for 133 yards and a touchdown and 17 kickoffs for 459 yards. Andrecus Lindley is second on the team in rushing with 222 yards.
