The Hildesheim Invaders (2-6) return to action August 4 when they play host to the Kiel Baltic Hurricanes (3-6-1) in German Football League play in the first game in a back-to-back series between the two.
The Invaders won the last two games before the break including a stunning 14-0 shut out of the Potsdam Royals on July 7. The addition of quarterback Tyler Johnson, was clearly a factor. In his first game with the Invaders, he completed 16 of 26 passes for 119 yards in three quarters of play while rushing for one touchdown. Newly-signed running back Jaleel Awini (formerly with the Frankfurt Universe in 2017) rushed for 51 yards and a touchdown while catching five passes for 51 yards.
The Hurricanes dropped two games in a row in the GFL before the break and have not played a game since June 23 when they were trounced 50-21 by the ‘Potsdam Royals. Until then, Kiel had undergone an improvement after the arrival of quarterback Lenorris Footman who had an impact. In fact, in that game he played well and in six games he has thrown for 1,042 yards and nine touchdowns. He has also rushed for 365 yards and nine touchdowns. With a running back duo of Khris Francis (517 yards) and Julian Ampaw (454), Kiel has a potent running attack.
This is a game for playoff survival. The fourth place spot in the GFL North standings is still up for grabs for a team with momentum
