LIVESTREAM: Germany’s Game Of The Week as Dresden Monarchs Battle The Berlin Rebels
In Germany’s top game this week, the Dresden Monarchs will play host to the Berlin Rebels at Heinz-Steyer Stadium in Dresden Saturday in a high anticipated rematch with plenty of playoff implications.
The two teams battled to a 21-21 draw to open the season in a game in which Dresden needed a late touchdown to pull even. This matchup has all the makings to be just as close.
A win by the Monarchs would vault them past Berlin who are currently first in the German North division. A Rebels victory would solidify them atop the standings.
The Monarchs are the top offensive team in Germany averaging 49.8 points and 518.6 yards per game. Berlin is not far behind though averaging 36.2 points and 402 yards a game good for fifth and fourth respectively.
Defensively there is not much that separates the two teams as Berlin has allowed an average of 22.7 points per game as compared to Dresden’s 24.8.
Top rushing team vs top passing team
Berlin features the top rushing attack in Germany averaging almost 250 yards a game as compared to Dresden’s 181.3 which puts them in third. This is where the Rebels can do some damage as Dresden gives up 202 yards a game.
However, the Monarchs are far and away the best passing team in Germany averaging 337.3 yards in the air every game while Berlin surrenders 193.4 yards on average.
Dresden quarterback Brandon Connette leads the league in passing yardage having thrown for 3,319 yards and 45 touchdowns in 10 games. His counterpart with Berlin, Terell Robinson has not been called upon to throw as often with 1,252 yards in 10 games.
Rebels running back Lawrence McCoy is a punishing runner and is by far the leading rusher in Germany having amassed 1,451 yards and scored 20 touchdowns on the ground. At this clip he could surpass the 2,000 rushing mark this season. However, Dresden’s Joseph Bergeron is right behind McCoy in the rushing stats with 1,125 yards on 103 carries (10.9 yards a carry).
The Monarchs receiving duo of Sebastian Sagne and Micky Kyei are Connette’s favorite receivers and are in the top 10 in both catches per game and yardage.
This will be a game of true contrasts.
