LIVESTREAM Germany: Stuttgart Scorpions @ Allgäu Comets, 15:00 CET, (3 pm, 9 am ET)
The Stuttgart Scorpions (1-5) visit the Allgäu Comets (3-1) in this GFL South Sunday matchup.
Viewers can expect plenty of cowbells to be clanking as the Allgäu faithful will be loud in Iller stadium in support of their beloved Comets team.
The Comets have all the momentum in the GFL South right now as they were able to get the 32-29 win in Ravensburg last week over the Razorbacks on national television. The win came despite the unexpected benching of American quarterback Mclane Carter. This left former Swansea University (UK) quarterback Sam Huxtable as the starter. The young Brit took his chance and ran with it going 12 of 17, for 160 yards, and two touchdowns leading the Comets to a win. Huxtable was aided by a great game from fellow countrymen British running back Glenn Toonga, who ran for 188 yards behind a strong game from his offensive line. If Allgäu can replicate that same success on the ground today, they should be celebrating another victory with their home fans.

Defensively, Julius Tager will have the tough task of covering Patrick Donahue one of the most skilled receivers in the German Football League. Tager will have the help of fierce pass rushers Jonell Pelie, Johannes Wagner, and Pidi Arentsen as the trio will all have their ears pinned back looking to add to an impressive defensive sack total, racking up 15 total sacks in only four games.
Another key defender to watch in this one is defensive end Jermaine Guynn. Guynn is a former Purdue University (NCAA D1) product who has a long history with the Scorpions. After playing for Stuttgart in 2014 and 2015 Guynn took over as head coach of the Scorpions for the 2018 and 2019 seasons. After the last GFL season, a combination of management changes and the pandemic-canceled season lured the skilled pass rusher back to the field in a different uniform. Anticipate Guynn to play with extra motivation as he faces off against players he used to coach and team where he is still well respected. The former coach is not there to hold a clipboard either, putting up 16 tackles, including eight for a loss, and two sacks in his three games with the Comets. Today, he’ll have an ultra-unique experience as he will be tackling and fighting in the trenches against players he used to give pregame speeches to.
Guynn looks at the matchup from a macro perspective:
“It’s a cool thing, It’s a fun experience to see how far guys have come. At the end of the day, you want to have some fun playing ball. It’s a great thing to see how they’ve developed in my two years there. Whether it’s a blue or red jersey seeing these develop and come into the sport is the most important thing.”
Avoiding Guynn’s pass rush will be Scorpion’s new quarterback Brandon Reaume. The Canadian passer showed his talents in his first game showing off his speed and ability to throw on the run. Expect him to use his athleticism today to avoid the Allgäu pass rush. If Reaume can build a connection with talented veteran receiver Patrick Donahue, the Scorpions offense has the potential to put up points. Reaume and a committee of Scorpions running backs will look to pound the rock behind an improved offensive line featuring former division one talent Simon Krizak.
Defensively, Stuttgart will be keyed in on the Comets run game, as they’ll aim to make the young British quarterback Sam Huxtable beat them passing the ball. Linebacker Geronimo De Pauli and defensive lineman Leon Epple have to step up and defend the run well if they want to get the win today.
After an ugly loss to Saarland, Allgäu bounced back with an improbable win in Ravensburg propelling themselves to an impressive 3-1 record in a tough GFL South. If the Comets can play with that same consistency, they should be back in the playoffs for the first time since 2018. However, they can’t overlook a much-improved Scorpions team looking to finish the season strong.
