LIVESTREAM Germany: Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns @ Ravensburg Razorbacks, May 29, 15:00 CET (3 pm, 9 am ET)
The Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns (1-0), title favorites in the German Football League, head to Ravensburg Sunday, May 29, to take on the Ravensburger Razorbacks as the GFL winds up the second weekend of play.
Both teams are coming off wins in their first games of the season. The Unicorns had no trouble last week in their opening game as they dominated the Saarland Hurricanes, beating them 48-14. Meanwhile, Ravensburg had an easy time of it, whipping the Frankfurt Universe 66-7.
The Unicorns have been among the GFL’s best for years now, winning their last 10 division titles and making an almost annual appearance in the German Bowl. This year it has been no different as the team was viewed as a clear preseason title favorite with a 77% probability.
In the win over the Hurricanes las week, Unicorns quarterback Reilly Hennessey was superb completing 18 of 24 passes for 336 yards and four touchdowns. His favorite target was Tyler Rutenbeck who caught eight passes for 178 yards and two scores. Former NFL receiver Mortiz Böhringer caught four passes for 93 yards and a touchdown. On defense, defensive back Mitch Fettig had an outstanding day leading the team with nine tackles while also picking off two passes.
As for the Razorbacks, they made the lights go out early against the Frankfurt Universe. Danish quarterback Alexander Kronborg, who has returned for a second season, was efficient in the win completing 19 of 28 passes for 285 yards and three touchdowns with Jaylen Zachery his main target with nine catches for 146 yards and a score. The Unicorns secondary will have to keep their eyes on him. Running back Lennies McFerren was his usual elusive self, as he rushed for 56 yards and found the end zone four times.
The last time these two squads faced each other was back on August 8, 2021. In that contest, the Unicorns won in blowout fashion by a score of 49-12. This game will be tough as well for the home squad. Schwäbisch Hall have only lost three games in total over the past five seasons and have been undefeated in each of the last five regular seasons.
In addition, they have been nearly as dominant on the road as they have been at home too, winning their last 14 games in a row by a margin of at least 30 points or more.
