The 9-0 Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns head to Munich to take on the 2-6-1 Munich Cowboys as the German Football League returns from a four week break for most teams.
The Unicorns are looking to extend a 43 game winning streak and look poised to defend their German title for the third straight year. Munich enters the game on a four game losing streak but played well in all four and could have won them. These two teams met once before this year with the Unicorns earning a decisive 35-3 victory.
Munich is coming off four losses, all of them tough ones. They dropped a 31-24 decision to the Stuttgart Scorpions after losing 19-18 to the Kirchdorf Wildcats which had followed a very tough 21-19 loss to the Stuttgart Scorpions the week before that. The Cowboys racked up 471 yards of offense in that game including 286 yards through the air but could not score a passing touchdown. The week before they suffered a 41-29 loss to the Marburg Mercenaries following back-to-back wins over the Allgäu Comets, beating them 21-18 and 31-16.
Cowboys QB Brady Bolles has thrown for threw for 2,554 yards and 19 touchdowns in nine games with WR Jaylen Zachery hauling in 82 passes for 1,282 yards and eight of those touchdowns. Kai Silbermann is his next leading target with 709 yards in receptions and six touchdown on 56 catches. However, the Cowboys running game continues to struggle and sits dead last in rushing in the GFL with an average of 51.1 yards rushing a game.
The Unicorns enter the game on a 43 game winning streak stretching back to the 2016 German Bowl and have looked just as impressive as ever this year. In the final game before the break, tey dumped the Ingolstadt Dukes 51-0 and the week before, they disposed of the Kirchdorf Wildcats 56-0. They whipped the Stuttgart Scorpions 63-21 after blanking their German Bowl opponents and chief rivals the Frankfurt Universe, Europe #4, 31-0. Prior to that, they overwhelmed the Marburg Mercenaries 52-9, the Ingolstadt Dukes 24-0, the Munich Cowboys 35-3, Kirchdorf Wildcats 51-12 and Stuttgart Scorpions 63-13.
Unicorns QB Jadrian Clark is the most efficient passer in the GFL with a rating of 194.6. He has thrown for 2,152 yards and 33 TDs in the nine wins this year. His top receiver so far has been Tyler Rutenbeck with 31 catches for 763 yards and 15 TDs while Nate Robitaille has 666 yards receiving and 10 TDs. As a team, the Unicorns are averaging 167.9 yards rushing a game, second best in the country with RB Maurice Schuele the top rusher with 374 yards.
Defensively, the Unicorns lead the GFL giving up just 6.4 points a game and top the league in yards allowed with 178.4.
