LIVESTREAM Germany: Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns @ Marburg Mercenaries, July 16, 16:00 CET (4 pm, 10:00 am ET)
The undefeated Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns (5-0) head to Marburg to take on the 1-3 Marburg Mercenaries as the German Football League heads into the second half of the 2022 regular season.
The struggling Mercenaries enter this matchup on a two-game losing skid after losses to the Munich Cowboys 37-7 and Straubing Spiders 43-17. They opened the season with a 19-7 loss to the Cowboys but then downed the Saarland Hurricanes 24-14.
Meanwhile, the Unicorns have rolled through the first half of the GFL season with ease beating Saarland 48-14, the Ravensburg Razorbacks 55-19, the Spiders 41-13, the Allgäu Comets 42-28 and Ravensburg again, 49-17.
Marburg quarterback Sonny Weishaupt has only thrown for 488 yards in the four games and five touchdowns. His main target has been Devon Smith who has 12 catches for 186 yards and three touchdowns. Running back Joshua Mack has rushed for 204 yards in four games and one touchdown. The Mercenaries offense will be hard pressed today averaging just 13.8 points a game.
For the Unicorns, James Slack is filling in for Reilly Hennessey and in two games has thrown for 541 yards and 10 touchdowns. However, he won’t have his favorite target as Tyler Rutenbeck was hurt against Ravensburg two weeks ago and has been replaced by Jake Parker from Howard Payne University who makes his debut against Marburg. Running back Lars Kozlowski is the ninth leading rusher in the GFL averaging 71.6 yards a game.
This should be a comfortable win for the GFL South leading Unicorns, but Marburg is playing at home for only the second time this season and could surprise.
