The Kirchdorf Wildcats (0-1-1) will play host the the defending champion Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns (3-0) in German Football League action, Saturday, May 18 at Energie Arena in Kirchdorf.
In the two games between these two in 2018, Kirchdorf did not manage to score a point, losing 29-0 and 40-0.
Based on this year’s results so far, the Wildcats will be in tough again today. They have opened the GFL season with a tie and a loss. Kirchdorf played the Munich Cowboys to a 27-27 tie and then dropped a 34-7 decision to the Stuttgart Scorpions.
Meanwhile, the Unicorns have not lost a beat from their championship season last year rolling to three easy wins, beating the Marburg Mercenaries 52-9, the Ingolstadt Dukes 24-0 and then whipping the Munich Cowboys 35-3.
KIrchdorf QB Ian Kolste (Whitworth) has thrown for 295 yards and one touchdown in two games with Robert Ruiz (Colorado State) hauling in eight catches for 197 yards and a touchdown. Running back Alex Braunsberger has caught five passes for 49 yards and rushed for 110 yards and three touchdowns while Kolste has rushed for 86 yards and another touchdown. Defensive lineman Shannon Smith (Bowling Green, NCAA Div. I) has recorded 10 tackles, seven for loss and five (!) sacks.
Unicorns QB Jadrian Clark has thrown for 734 yards and 7 TDs in the three wins this year. His top receiver so far has been Tyler Rutenbeck with 11 catches for 292 yards and 5 TDs. Behind him in 2nd is Nate Robitaille with 166 yards receiving. As a team, the Unicorns have only rushed for 324 yards with RB Maurice Schuele the top rusher with 146 yards.
Defensively, the Unicorns lead the GFL giving up just 4 points a game.
