The Stuttgart Scorpions (1-4) play host to the Ravensburg Razorbacks (2-2) in this GFL South matchup.
Both teams are coming off of losses and are expecting to bounce back this week as the league’s short summer break approaches.
The Razorbacks have been a pleasant surprise as the 2019 GFL2 champions have been able to rack up wins against the Munich Cowboys and Marburg Mercenaries. Head coach Sebastian Fandert has created chemistry on this team with a core of local German players and a large group of foreign imports. Offensively, coordinator Augie Stevens is the play caller for a multi-faceted offense that features power running from 220pound running back Lennies Mcferren, paired with an explosive passing game with receiver Michael Mayer and tight end Ryan Smith. Good skill players and two capable quarterbacks in American Ryan Deal and Dane Alexander Kronberg-Bjerre give this Razorbacks offense the talent to put up big numbers against a struggling Stuttgart defense.
The Ravensburg defense on the other hand was disappointing in their last outing giving up 38 points to the Saarland Hurricanes in a close loss at home. Saarland’s passing attack scorched the Razorbacks as they gave up 562 yards on the day. Look for Ravensburg linebacker Jeremy Conley to play more as a pass rusher as they aim to contain a Scorpions passing a game and receiver Patrick Donahue.
New quarterback Brandon Reaume takes over under center for the Scorpions. Reaume is an athletic dual threat quarterback with experience playing quarterback and defensive back at collegiate and semi pro level in his home country of Canada. Fans can expect for Reaume to target veteran receiver Patrick Donahue today, as Donahue’s experience and athleticism make him Stuttgart’s most dangerous weapon. After missing last week’s game Stuttgart fans are hoping he’s back in the line-up today. In the running game, Giacomo De Pauli provides this offense with a strong tailback who can run through arm tackles. Stuttgart native Simon Krizak also recently joined the Scorpions. The 6’4″ 300pound offensive lineman brings size and division one NCAA experience (Bucknell NCAA D1 FCS) to this Stuttgart line that should help them in the trenches the rest of the season.
Defensively, the Scorpions will rely on another De Pauli, this time linebacker Geronimo. Defensive lineman Leon Epple is a key pass rusher in this defensive front. On the outside cornerback Max Amberg expects to slow down the Ravensburg receivers. Defensive back Marcus Bratton returns to the field for this Scorpions. The experienced defensive back should be able to help slow down a skilled group of Razorback receivers.
Ravensburg looks to get back in the win column after a tough loss to Saarland two weeks ago. Today, they’ll face a Stuttgart team with a new quarterback eager to redeem themselves after a poor outing against the Schwabisch Hall Unicorns.
