LIVESTREAM Germany PPV: Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns @ Saarland Hurricanes, Sept. 9, 17;00 CET (5 pm, 11 am EDT)
One of the headliners of this weekend’s German Football League regular season finale will take place in Saarland as the 8-3 Hurricanes play host to the 9-2 Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns.
With the Unicorns needing a win to secure the top seed, the Hurricanes will play to move from third seed in the South to second or even first. In order for this to happen, the Hurricanes will need to win against the Unicorns as well as the Allgäu Comets losing against the Ingolstadt Dukes. A Hurricanes win would see the top seed come down to a tie break, with multiple teams sitting at nine wins.
Led by ex-Cal Golden Bear Robby Rowell, the Saarland offense has been spectacular all season, putting up an impressive 39.0 points per game, ranking third in the league. Rowell is the only player to find himself in the top five in both rushing and passing yards, having racked up a ridiculous 814 rushing yards (4th), being the only quarterback to surpass 600, and 2,988 passing yards (5th). On top of this, the former University of Nottingham passer leads the league in rushing touchdowns (11).

Saarland are coming off a huge 46-13 win over the Straubing Spiders in which Rowell had his third straight six touchdown performance. Defensively, Sam Viera led with 10 tackles and a tackle-for-loss, while Tim Froetschl put on a show with nine tackles and a key fumble recovery.
Barring a rough start to the season which saw the Unicorns lose their season-long win-streak to the Royals accompanied by some other uncharacteristic performances, Schwäbisch Hall have performed tremendously, proving that they are still a top-tier organisation despite losing around half their roster to the European League of Football’s Stuttgart Surge. Most recently, they hosted the Marburg Mercenaries, coming out on top by a score of 42-14.
Mike Gentili had an extraordinary outing, putting up 128 yards on seven rushes, while star wideout Caleb Schweigart put up his fourth 100-yard game, on just four receptions. Defensively, cornerback Monteze Latimore has proven instrumental as he leads the league in interceptions (9) and pick-sixes (3) – second place in the league has five interceptions.
Everything is still to play for as the Unicorns will look to solidify themselves as the top seed in the South with a win, while the Hurricanes will be looking to secure home-field advantage for the opening round of the playoffs.
