The Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns (1-0) are on the road in the German Football League’s second weekend of action when they head to Kirchdorf to face the Kirchdorf Wildcats (0-0) who are opening their season.
The Unicorns, winners of the GFL South in 2023 and GFL finalists, are coming off a thrilling 58-57 come from behind win over the Allgäu Comets last weekend.
For the Wildcats, Tobias Kanther will remain at quarterback after guiding the team to promotion to the German Football League. In GFL2 in 2023, Kanther threw for 2,029 yards and 25 touchdowns leading the team to a 9-1 record. The Wildcats have added wide receiver Keegan Sturdy (Northwest Missouri State University) on offense. Defensively, Caleb Ashby (Arizona Christian University) will join the defensive back corps.
Schwäbisch Hall quarterback Conor Miller, who is in his fifth season in Europe was efficient in the win over the Comets. He threw for 264 yards and five touchdowns with his favorite target being Jason-Matthew Sharsh who had five catches for 126 yards and three touchdowns. Veteran running back Mike Gentili rushed for 107 yards and a score.
The Wildcats are returning to the top league in Germany for the first time since 2019. The Schwäbisch Hall offense proved they can score in bunches last week but after allowing 57 points, the question is how good the defense is.
