The Kiel Baltic Hurricanes (1-1) face their stiffest test of the season when they host the defending champion and league-leading Potsdam Royals (2-0) Saturday, June 1 in German Football League North action.
The Royals defeated Kiel in both meetings between the teams in 2023, whipping them 58-15 and 48-21.
Kiel matched their win total from 2023 by beating the Braunschweig New Yorker Lions in their opening game doubling up on them 28-14. They then were beaten 21-19 by the Paderborn Dolphins. Potsdam has looked impressive in beating the Hildesheim Invaders 56-21 and Berlin Adler 58-0.
Hurricanes quarterback Nate Hayden has thrown for 326 yards and three touchdowns in the two games with Isaiah Harris as his main target. Harris has hauled in 10 passes for 154 yards and two touchdowns. The Kiel ground game which was excellent against Braunschweig with Lorenz Rotermund rushing for 205 yards and a pair of touchdowns, vanished in the loss to Paderborn with Rotermund held to just 30 yards.
For Potsdam, quarterback Jaylon Henderson has already thrown for 681 yards and 14 touchdowns with Brendan Beaulieu (281 yards/6 TDs) and Daniel Pedro (282 yards/3 TDs) as his main targets. Running back Heiko Bals has rushed for 138 yards so far.
This could be a long afternoon for the Hurricanes as Potsdam would seem to playing at a mid season level.
