The Potsdam Royals (7-0) head south to Kempten to face the Allgäu Comets (2-4) as the German Football League heads into the home stretch of the 2024 season.
This is the first ever meeting between these two teams.
The Comets are on a three-game losing skid dropping a 31-27 decision to the Munich Cowboys in their last outing after losing 29-25 to the Straubing Spiders and 46-20 to the Ravensburg Razorbacks. After losing their opening game, Allgäu won two straight before dropping the last three. They fell just short to Schwäbisch Hall (58-57) in the first game, but rebounded with wins over the Razorbacks (56-28) and Saarland Hurricanes, 36-30
Potsdam has looked more than impressive so far this year beating the Hildesheim Invaders 56-21, Berlin Adler 58-0, Kiel Baltic Hurricanes 56-23 and the Berlin Rebels 74-20. They then used a strong second half to defeat the second place Dresden Monarchs 40-19 a month ago before whipping the number one team in the GFL South, the Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns 56-18. They then handed the Berlin Rebels an embarrassing 63-0 pounding last weekend.
Watch live PPV: Potsdam Royals @ Allgäu Comets, July 27, 16:00 CET (4 pm, 10 am EDT)
Comets quarterback Xeavier Bullock is the leading passer in the GFL averaging 367.5 yards a game after throwing for 2,205 yards and 28 touchdowns in six games. They will need him to continue like this today. His favorite receiver is Nate Stewart who tops the GFL with 55 receptions for 921 yards and 13 touchdowns. He is followed closely by Ahsan Moore with 28 receptions for 449 yards and six scores, and Dominik Hoerner with 20 catches for 446 yards and four touchdowns. Allgäu has the second to worst ground game in the league having rushed for a total of 439 yards.
The key to the Royals is their offense and quarterback Jaylon Henderson. Potsdam is averaging a ridiculous 57.5 points a game with Henderson throwing for 2,526 yards and 40 touchdowns. The QB/WR duo of Henderson and Brendan Beaulieu remains hot. Through their seven games, Henderson and Beaulieu have connected for 14 scores and 815 yards. Henderson is the GFL leader in passing touchdowns (40), second in yards per game (360.9) and first in completion percentage with an absurd 80.9%.
