The Paderborn Dolphins (3-5) will be traveling to Mommsenstadion in Berlin Saturday, August 12 , to face off against the Berlin Rebels (4-3) for a German Football League North matchup.
These two teams faced each other once before this season with Paderborn coming out on top at home after beating the Rebels 16-8.
While the top three spots of the GFL North are pretty much secured, Paderborn and both of Berlin’s teams will be battling for that final spot until the very end of the season. If Paderborn loses tomorrow, their chances of getting that final spot become much more difficult. However, if the Dolphins win tomorrow, that would give them two victories over the Rebels and a leg up in the event of a tie in the standings which means that the final weeks in the North division could get very interesting.
After winning their first two games, the Rebels went on a three-game losing streak. With back-to-back wins against Kiel, the Rebels find themselves back in the playoff picture at 4-3.
While the Rebels offense has been up and down this season, they have had one of the more consistent defenses so far. Berlin has given up the fewest passing yards per game (161.6) and are fourth in points given up per game (21.8).
On the other side, Paderborn is desperate for a win if they hope to keep their playoff hopes alive. The Dolphins offense has also struggled this year, ranking 14th in yards per game (252.4) and dead last in points per game in the GFL with only 13.3.
Defensively they have struggled as well, being the defense that has given up the most points per game with 36.6. However, numbers don’t mean everything. Paderborn is still sitting at 3-5 with a chance to sneak out of the GFL North with the final playoff spot. This will be one of the biggest games of the final stretch for each team, so expect a close game in Berlin between the Dolphins and Rebels.
