LIVESTREAM Germany PPV: New Yorker Lions @ Berlin Rebels, Aug. 3, 16:00 CET (4 pm, 10 am EDT)
The Berlin Rebels (2-5) will be trying to rebound after suffering their fourth straight loss when they host the Braunschweig New Yorker Lions (4-3) Saturday, August 3 at Mommsenstadion in Berlin.
The Rebels were pounded 63-0 by the Potsdam Royals for loss #6 two weeks ago.
The Rebels had opened the season with a thrilling come from behind 39-38 win over the Saarland Hurricanes but were brought down to earth by the Hildesheim Invaders who beat them 36-19 in Game #2. They then beat the Kirchdorf Wildcats 33-17 before being downed by crosstown rivals the Berlin Adler 27-18 and then the Royals 74-20. They suffered a 56-24 loss to the Kiel Baltic Hurricanes before the debacle with the Royals.
The Lions are coming off their fourth straight win after dropping three in a row to open the GFL season. In their last outing they defeated the Kiel Baltic Hurricanes 29-15 after beating the Paderborn Dolphins 35-7. That followed their first win June 8 when they beat the Kirchdorf Wildcats 24-3 and win #2 against the Saarland Hurricanes 37-20. They had lost to the Dolphins 10-7 , 28-14 to the Hurricanes and then 21-7 to the Dresden Monarchs.
The story for the Rebels season has been their starting quarterback Tyquel Fields. In his first season, he has thrown for 1,169 yards and six touchdowns in six games but has tossed nine interceptions as well. However, he is the eighth leading rusher in the league with 75 carries for 474 yards and eight scores. His leading target in the air is Austin Osborne with 49 catches for 738 yards and four touchdowns which places him third overall in the GFL.
For Braunschweig, quarterback Donovan Ismo has started the last four games, all wins. He has thrown for 595 yards and six touchdowns. Lamar Jordan started the first game against Kiel throwing for only 131 yards. He was replaced in the matchup with Paderborn by wide receiver Leon Dirmeier. David Shafir started at quarterback in the loss to Dresden before Ismo stepped in. The leading receiver for the Lions so far has been Luc Meacham who has 16 catches for 218 yards and three scores although he did not play in the win against Kiel.
Braunschweig needs the win to help secure the fourth and final playoff spot in the GFL North while the Rebels have to stay out of the basement of the GFL North to avoid relegation.
