The Marburg Mercenaries (0-5) will travel to Munich to face the Munich Cowboys (1-4) for the second time in a mid-season German Football League South matchup, Saturday, July 8.
Marburg still looks for their first win as they lost five straight to start off the 2023 GFL season including an 18-7 loss to the Cowboys. Munich is also looking to get back into the win column as they have lost four in a row since their win against Marburg in their first game of the season.
There is no doubt that the Mercenaries have struggled so far this season, but their best chance to get their first win comes this week against Munich.
Both teams currently sit at the bottom of the GFL as they have one win and nine total losses between them. Marburg is led by a dual quarterback system between Elliot Bodman and Danny Farley. Both quarterbacks have combined for 906 passing yards and six touchdowns. While it may not be the worst stats, they are being hurt the six interceptions they have thrown.

Their passing game is the key to finding their first victory as the Mercenaries currently sit dead last in the GFL with only 321 rushing yards through five games.
There is no question that Marburg has been struggling so far this season, but the same could be said for the Munich Cowboys as well. The Cowboys only have one win on the season, and it came against the Mercenaries, the only winless team in the GFL.
Thankfully for them, they get to go up against Marburg again this week to try and get their second win of the season. The key to the Cowboys success still continues to be on the ground from running back Felix Wenz. Wenz is fourth in the GFL in rushing yards per game with 77.3 and sixth in yards per carry with 5.7.
Look for Wenz to have a big game against the Mercenaries as Marburg’s defense has given up the second most rushing yards per game in the GFL thus far with 155.2.
