This Saturday, June 17th, the Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns (1-2) will be facing off against the Ingolstadt Dukes (1-1) for the second time in the German Football League season.
The last time these two played, the Unicorns snuck away with a 29-20 victory.
Schwäbisch Hall have struggled of late. After their last win against Ingolstadt in May, the Unicorns are yet to win a game in the month of June.
While the Unicorns still trying to find their identity after longtime head coach Jordan Neuman departed for the ELF. However, there are still glimpses of very successful team they once were. One thing the Unicorns desperately need to figure out is their defensive gameplan. Over their last two matches, they have given up 77 total points. Including a 42-14 loss to the Thonon Black Panthers in the CEFL.
In this matchup, they will have the support of the home crowd behind them so they may be able to feed off their energy to help turn their season around. The Unicorns wo losses on the season has been the first time they have lost more than one game in a GFL season since they started 2-2 in 2014.
On the other side, the Dukes will look to travel to Schwäbisch Hall and try and capture a victory that they narrowly missed out on in their last match against the Unicorns. Ingolstadt may be heading into the game a bit rusty since they have not played since May 27th.
Since then, the Unicorns have played two games, so Ingolstadt will need to avoid a slow start and try to knock the dust off quickly to give them the best chance to compete. While other teams have been able to pass successfully against the Unicorns, look for the Dukes to do the same.
Quarterback Matthew Weimer and wide receiver Sven Beyrich have built quite the connection. In their last matchup against Schwäbisch Hall, Weimer threw for 244 yards and two scores. Beyrich was on the end of eight of those passes for 100 yards and one touchdown. Ingolstadt has also been successful on the ground as well with Jean-Charles Moukouri averaging 102 yards per game on the ground.
This one is a toss up with a slight home field advantage to the Unicorns.
