The Berlin Rebels (2-3) take the four hour bus ride to Kiel Saturday, June 22 to face the Kiel Baltic Hurricanes (1-3) in a matchup that suddenly becomes crucial for both teams.
The Hurricanes are seventh in the GFL North standings right behind the sixth place Rebels. A win would pull them ahead of Berlin while the Rebels need to get past Kiel to keep pace with the Adler who occupy fourth.
Kiel opened the season by matching their win total from 2023 by beating the Braunschweig New Yorker Lions in their opening game doubling up on them 28-14. They then were beaten 21-19 by the Paderborn Dolphins and by Potsdam 56-23 before dropping a tough one to the Dresden Monarchs, 22-11. The Rebels opened the season with a thrilling come from behind 39-38 win over the Saarland Hurricanes but were brought down to earth by the Hildesheim Invaders who beat them 36-19 in Game #2. They then beat the Kirchdorf Wildcats 33-17 before being beaten by crosstown rivals the Berlin Adler 27-18 and then the Potsdam Royals 74-20.
Watch live PPV. Berlin Rebels @ Kiel Baltic Hurricanes, June 22, 16:00 CET (4 pm, 10 am EDT)
Hurricanes quarterback Nate Hayden has thrown for 665 yards and eight touchdowns in the four games with Isaiah Harris as his main target. Harris has hauled in 27 passes for 340 yards and five touchdowns. The Kiel ground game has been solid with Lorenz Rotermund rushing for 331 yards and three touchdowns.
On the other side, the story for the Rebels season has also relied heavily on their starting quarterback as well. First year man Tyquel Fields has been doing everything he can to help propel this Berlin team to victory. Fields is fifth in the GFL in passing yards with 895 yards. However, the Rebels signal caller does most of his damage on the ground as he leads the league in rushing yards (404) and touchdowns (8).
The Hurricanes will have to find a way to contain Fields while Berlin will need him to take it to another level in this critical road game for the Rebels.
