The Saarland Hurricanes (1-6) will play host to the Allgäu Comets (2-5) as the German Football League heads into the second half of the season.
These two teams faced each other earlier in the season with the Comets coming out on top 36-30.
They will face a Saarland Hurricanes team that lost two high scoring games to the Berlin Rebels (39-38) and Comets (36-30) before beating the Ravensburg Razorbacks 44-32. They then proceeded to lose to the Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns 50-28, 40-12 to the Straubing Spiders, and 37-20 to the New Yorker Lions and 23-20 to the Unicorns.
The Comets are cominng off the worst loss they have ever suffered in the GFL after getting manhandled 96-14 by the Potsdam Royals last week. They entered that game on a three-game losing skid dropping a 31-27 decision to the Munich Cowboys after losing 29-25 to the Straubing Spiders and 46-20 to the Ravensburg Razorbacks. After losing their opening game, Allgäu won two straight before dropping the last four. They fell just short to Schwäbisch Hall (58-57) in the first game, but rebounded with wins over the Razorbacks (56-28) and the Hurricanes.

For Saarland, quarterback Connor Kaegi (Ottawa University, NAIA), 6’7″, 225 pounds, joined the team to replace Andrew Brito and threw for 177 yards and two touchdowns in the loss to Schwäbisch Hall. His main target will no doubt be Spencer Corona who is the sixth leading receiver in the league in overall yardage (652) and fifth in yards per game (93.1). Benjamin Thompson is the leading rusher for the Hurricanes having carried the ball 48 times for 199 yards and two touchdowns.
Comets quarterback Xeavier Bullock is still the leading passer in the GFL averaging 367.5 yards a game after throwing for 2,428 yards and 30 touchdowns in seven games. They will need him to continue like this today. His favorite receiver is Nate Stewart who tops the GFL with 59 receptions for 1,011 yards and 14 touchdowns. He is followed closely by Ahsan Moore with 33 receptions for 502 yards and six scores, and Dominik Hoerner with 23 catches for 473 yards and five touchdowns. Allgäu has the second to worst ground game in the league having rushed for a total of 511 yards.
Following the humiliating defeat last week against Potsdam, the Comets will no doubt be looking for redemption and against a slumping Saarland team. However, the addition of Kaegi at quarterback could well be the spark Saarland needs.
