LIVESTREAM: Germany – Potsdam Royals @Cologne Crocodiles, Sunday, Sept. 1, 3p CEDT (9a EDT)
The 5-7 Cologne Crocodiles will play host to the 4-7-1 Potsdam Royals Sunday, September 1 as the German Football League rolls towards the end of the regular season.
The two teams met earlier in the season with Cologne coming away with a 26-14 win after trailing 14-3. This will be a battle for fifth spot with both teams no longer in the post season picture.
Although the Crocodiles earned a 14-0 win over the Hildesheim Invaders last week, they were eliminated from post season play when the Berlin Rebels defeated the Kiel Baltic Hurricanes 21-9 yesterday. Potsdam has also been knocked out of playoff contention.
So today’s game will be for pride alone. Both teams have suffered from uncertainty at the quarterback position although Cologne seemed to have resolved the issue in finding Jerrad Evans. Evans has thrown for 874 yards in his four starts and settled down the offense. Evans replaced an injured Conor Miller and Tobias Jarmuzek had filled in for one game before Evans’ arrival.
Potsdam has won its last two games, 17-10 over Dusseldorf and 29-0 over the Kiel Baltic Hurricanes, thanks in large part to running back Gennadiy Adams who rushed for 348 yards and five touchdowns in the two games. He is now the second leading rusher in the country having rushed for 1,122 yards and 14 touchdowns. With a revolving door at the quarterback spot and last week’s starter, Enrico Stiegermann, throwing for 29 yards on 3 of 9 passing, Adams was the difference. He will be called upon again today with the starting quarterback not yet determined.
The addition of James McCallum and Peter Jinkens on defense has helped and the Royals boast the second best defense against the run in the GFL North.
