The Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns (2-0) will face the Munich Cowboys (0-0-1) in the second full weekend of play in the German Football League at Optima Sportpark in Schwäbisch Hall Saturday May 11.
The Unicorns have won both their opening games relatively comfortably beating the Marburg Mercenaries 52-9 and then blanking the Ingolstadt Dukes 24-0. Meanwhile, Munch racked up 523 yards of offense against the Kirchdorf Wildcats but only came away with a 27-27 tie.
Schwabisch Hall defeated the Cowboys in both games between the two teams in 2018, 48-7 and 44-14.
Unicorns QB Jadrian Clark, who quarterbacked the Braunschewig New Yorker Lions in 2018, has thrown for 560 yards and 5 TDs in both wins this year. His top receiver so far has been Tyler Rutenbeck with eight catches for 209 yards and 3 TDs. Behind him in 2nd is Nate Robitaille with 112 yards receiving. As a team, the Unicorns have only rushed for 177 yards with RB Schuele the top rusher with 89 yards.
The Cowboys reached the playoffs in 2018 for the first time since 2014 and HC Garren Holley is aiming to improve on that this season. Holley has signed QB Brady Bolles (Northwest Missouri State) who threw for 455 yards last week against Kirchdorf. WR Jaylen Zachery (Central Missouri State) who was in camp with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, was his key target with 17 receptions for 234 yards and 3 TDs.
Although the Unicorns are the clear favorites in this contest, the Bolles-to-Zachery connection could well put pressure on the Schwäbisch Hall defensive secondary.
