The 1-1 Marburg Mercenaries will play host to the 0-2 Munich Cowboys Sunday, May 20 at Georg-Gassman Stadium in Marburg in German Football League action.
Both teams are looking to improve. Marburg fell to the Frankfurt Universe last week 63-7 in a dismal performance after opening the season with a convincing 33-7 win over the Kirchdorf Wildcats. The Cowboys have dropped their first two games, losing 17-0 to the Universe and then were thrashed by the Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns 48-7.
Both teams have struggled offensively with Munich having generated 386 yards in total offense and one touchdown in two games while Marburg has 582 and six touchdowns scored.
Marburg quarterback Alexander Thury has thrown for 374 yards and three touchdowns in two games while Munich’s Trenton Miller has averaged 174.5 yards a game. Marburg running back Silas Nacita, one of the top three running backs in the league for the past two years, has been held to a total of 78 yards in two games while Munich’s Darrell Tate has 28 yards rushing on 22 carries. This could be the breakout game for one or both of these backs.
Both head coaches, Garren Holley of the Cowboys and Marburg’s Dale Heffron are aware of the importance of this early season matchup.
