LIVESTREAM Germany: Munich Cowboys @ Allgäu Comets, June 27, 15:00 CET (3 pm, 09:00 am ET)
The Allgäu Comets (1-0) will host their rivals the Munich Cowboys (2-1) in this matchup of GFL South teams.
This All-Bavarian battle features two teams that looked primed for the post. Expect cowbells to be ringing as Kempten is known for its strong fan support of their Comets at home.
The Comets offense has played well so far as new quarterback Mclane Carter (Texas Tech NCAA D1) has been able to beat defenses with both his arm and his legs. In Elias Gniffke’s offense, Carter has been involving British running back Glenn Toonga. Toonga, Carter and veteran back Brandon Kohn serve as a three headed monster propelling this Comets offense forward behind solid offensive line play. Toonga will be matched up this week with Cowboys linebacker Ryan Newell. Newell and the British ball carrier make for an intriguing linebacker-running back matchup for fans to watch in this one.

Defensively, the strength of Comets is in their front seven. Veteran linebacker Niall Padden helps lead a fierce defensive unit that helped cause three turnovers in their first game. The Cowboys pass happy offense will have to hold up against Jermaine Guynn, Pidi Arentsen, Jonnell Pelie, and Johannes Wagner as all four of these defenders are skilled and experienced pass rushers.
The Cowboys offense has been one of the league’s most intriguing stories. Veteran Justin Sottilare has thrown for 11 touchdowns in only three games. Today, Sottilare faces his former team, as he was part of an 8-5 2018 Comets squad, where he threw for 43 touchdowns and 4,206 yards. Sottilare will aim to replicate the success he had in Kempten once again today by targeting talented playmakers Kai Silbermann, Michiah Quick, and Brandon Watkins.
On defense, Ryan Newell and AJ Smith aim to contain Glenn Toonga and this Comets offense. Safety AJ Smith’s tackling will be key factor as the roaming defender will have to wrap up in space. The Comets offense relies on short passes and getting their playmakers the ball in the flats. If Smith can make some open field stops the Cowboys might leave Kempten with a victory.
Fans of Bavarian football have been eagerly awaiting this matchup as the Cowboys-Comets rivalry never disappoints. The Cowboys have been playing like contenders while the well-rested Comets are eager give their fans a home victory.
