The Munich Cowboys will try to snap a five game losing streak when they face the 4-2 Allgäu Comets and their “Flying Circus” at Illerstadion in Kempten, Germany, Sunday June 24.
The Comets are coming off of a satisfying 35-23 win over the Kirchdorf Wildcats last week which saw the aerial offense, led by quarterback Justin Sottilare, back in sync. Allgäu had suffered a surprising 28-14 loss the week before in a game in which Sottilare was held to “only” 282 yards passing.
In the victory over the Wildcats, Sottilare threw for 523 yards and four touchdowns adding to his league-leading 2,615 yards and 25 touchdowns. Jordan Paul (712 yds), Martin Emos (574), Féli Manoka (556) and Jonatan Gihl (538) are among the top seven receivers in the country. Spencer Cutlan is fourth overall in scoring with 53 points on five touchdowns and 23 PATs.
Munich quarterback Trenton Miller has thrown for 1,144 yards and nine touchdowns in five games and sits eighth among all quarterbacks. However, the Cowboys running game is anemic with 128 total rushing yards in five games. Running back Darrell Tate has gained 109 yards and no touchdowns so far. However, combined with his receiving and kick returning duties, he is averaging 133 yards in total offense.
For the Cowboys to have a chance in this game, they have to somehow get pressure on Sottilare. If they don’t, this could be a long afternoon for the beleaguered Munich secondary.
