The Marburg Mercenaries (2-3) take their aerial show on the road when they visit the Munich Cowboys (2-2-1) Saturday, June 15 as both teams battle for the fourth playoff spot in the German Football League South.
Munich is coming off of back-to-back wins over the Allgäu Comets, beating them 21-18 and 31-16.
In both games, Munich has relied on their better passing game (583 yards to 221 for Comets) but they have been totally outgained on the ground 189 to -18.
Cowboys QB Brady Bolles has thrown for threw for 1,356 yards and 12 touchdowns in five games with WR Jaylen Zachery hauling in 53 passes for 750 yards and five of those touchdowns. Kai Silbermann is his next leading target with 358 yards in receptions and five touchdown on 28 catches. Unfortunately, the Cowboys have only rushed for a total of 161 yards in five games.
The Mercenaries are on a roll after back-to-back victories as they have unleashed their passing game. They downed the Ingolstadt Dukes 43-14 two weeks ago after notching their first win of the season the week before. It was a big one as they outdueled the Kirchdorf Wildcats 55-49. They had dropped their first three games of the year in 2019, losing 52-9 to the defending champion Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns, then 30-21 to the Stuttgart Scorpions and finally 20-14 to the Frankfurt Universe.
Marburg quarterback Jakeb Sullivan was outstanding in both wins throwing for 355 yards and five touchdowns against Ingolstadt and 483 yards against the Wildcats to up his season total to 1,609 yards and 14 TDs making him the top passer in the GFL. Hendrik Schwarz is his leading target with 507 yards receiving on 24 receptions. Marvin Rutsch has caught 30 passes for 214 yards while teammate Triston McCathem has 299 yards rushing for the year but he also has 264 yards receiving.
This one could go either way. Both quarterbacks have hit their stride. It will be an aerial display.
