LIVESTREAM: Germany – Kirchdorf Wildcats @Stuttgart Scorpions, Sunday, May 12, 3p CEDT (9a EDT)
The 1-0 Stuttgart Scorpions visit Kirchdorf, Germany Sunday May 12 to face the Kirchdorf Wildcats (0-0-1) in the second full weekend of play in the German Football League.
The Scorpions are coming off a satisfying 30-21 win over the Marburg Mercenaries last week while Kirchdorf battled to a 27-27 tie with the Munich Cowboys.
The two teams met twice in 2018 with each one taking a win. Kirchdorf downed the Scorpions 15-7 in the first game but Stuttgart returned the favor in the second, beating the Wildcats 35-14.
HC Christoph Riener’s QB Ian Kolste (Whitworth) threw for 206 yards and one touchdown last week with Robert Ruiz (Colorado State) hauling in five catches for 159 yards and a touchdown. Running back Alex Braunsberger rushed for 70 yards and two touchdowns while Kolste added another touchdown on the ground. Defensive lineman Shannon Smith (Bowling Green, NCAA Div. I) was a monster on defense recording eight tackles, seven for loss and five (!) sacks.
Stuttgart QB Michael Eubank threw for 369 yards and three touchdowns in last week’s win over Marburg. Running back Giacomo De Pauli did a lot of the damage rushing for 64 yards but also catching nine passes for 85 yards and two touchdowns. Wide receive Tyler Cooperwood had five receptions for 94 yards and a touchdown while Luca Faschian caught four for 87 and a touchdown. In other words, Stuttgart has weapons.
Defensively, the Scorpions gave up 440 yards of offense to Marburg last week which could be cause for concern. Still they recorded two interceptions one of which led to a touchdown.
This one is tough to predict.
