The Marburg Mercenaries (0-3) will try to capture their first win of the season when they host the 0-2-1 Kirchdorf Wildcats, Sunday, May 26 at Georg-Gaßmann-Stadion in Marburg in German Football League action.
The Mercenaries have dropped their first three games of the year in 2019, losing 52-9 to the defending champion Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns, then 30-21 to the Stuttgart Scorpions and finally 20-14 to the Frankfurt Universe.
They have opened the GFL season with a tie and two losses. Kirchdorf played the Munich Cowboys to a 27-27 tie and then dropped a 34-7 decision to the Stuttgart Scorpions and then were walloped 52-14 by the Schwabisch Hall Unicorns.
Marburg quarterback Jake Sullivan has started the 2019 campaign with modest numbers throwing for 771 yards and three touchdowns in two games while rushing for 107 and another touchdown. Marvin Rutsch has caught 16 passes for 84 yards while teammate Triston McCathem has 13 for 96 and one touchdown and has rushed for 63 yards.
KIrchdorf QB Ian Kolste (Whitworth) has thrown for 295 yards and one touchdown in two games while Clayton Turner came in against the Unicorns and threw for 90 yards. Receiver Robert Ruiz (Colorado State) has hauled in 12 catches for 240 yards and a touchdown. Running back Alex Braunsberger has caught five passes for 49 yards and rushed for 110 yards and three touchdowns while Kolste has rushed for 86 yards and another touchdown. Defensive lineman Shannon Smith (Bowling Green, NCAA Div. I) has recorded 10 tackles, seven for loss and five (!) sacks.
