LIVESTREAM: Germany – Kiel Baltic Hurricanes @Potsdam Royals, June 23, 4p (10a EST)
The 3-5-1 Kiel Baltic Hurricanes head to Potsdam, Germany Saturday, June 23 to take on the 3-3 Potsdam Royals in a key German Football League North matchup.
The Hurricanes sit fifth in the GFL North, right ahead of the sixth place Royals.
Potsdam is coming off of a convincing 42-24 win over the Hamburg Huskies last week. The score is misleading as the Royals relaxed in the fourth quarter leading 35-10, allowing Hamburg to score two late touchdowns. The Royals had just won the European Football league championship the week before defeating Italy’s Milano Seamen.
Kiel has undergone an improvement since the arrival of quarterback Lenorris Footman who is having an impact. In the five games he has played the Hurricanes have gone 2-2-1 with both losses to Dresden. The second loss to the Monarchs last week was a close affair with Footman throwing for 133 yards and a touchdown and rushing for 136 and two touchdowns. He has rushed for 365 yards and nine touchdowns and thrown for 755 and another six touchdowns. The Royals will have to keep him in check to have a chance in this game. With a running back duo of Khris Francis (479 yards) and Julian Ampaw (427), Kiel have a potent running attack.
Royals quarterback Austin Gahafer is the third leading passer in Germany with 1,612 yards passing and 22 touchdowns. Running back Tyvis Smith is the second leading rusher with 527 yards rushing while wide receiver Frederik Myrup-Nielsen is the third leading receiver, averaging 109 yards receiving per game. As these three go, so go the Royals.
However, both teams will need to rely on their offenses to win this one as they have both been allowing just over 28 points a game.
This game is a toss up. Home field advantage doesn’t seem to be a factor here. Potsdam has lost both of their home games this season.
