LIVESTREAM: Germany – Ingolstadt Dukes @Allgäu Comets, Sunday, June 9, 3p CEDT (9a EDT)
The Allgäu Comets 0-3 will be looking for their first win of the year when the play host to the equally winless Ingolstadt Dukes Sunday, June 9 in Kempten, Germany as the German Football League winds up its fifth weekend of play.
The Comets were blanked in the opening game of the season by the Frankfurt Universe and then dropped two in a row to the Munich Cowboys, 31-16 and 21-18.
The Comets need their offense to kick into gear. Quarterback Calvin Stitt has thrown for a total of just 274 yards in three games and rushed for only 30. Running back Lennies McFerren has only gained 166 yards in the three games and is due for a breakout performance. He did rush for 77 yards and one touchdown last week against Munich.
Defensively though, Allgäu is the toughest team in Germany to run against giving up a mere 10 yards a game. This could be a huge factor in this game.
Ingolstadt lost to the surging Marburg Mercenaries last week 43-13 after losing 37-13 to the Frankfurt Universe the week before, which dropped them into the GFL South Conference basement. They had dropped 24-0 decision to the powerful Schwabisch Hall Unicorns to open their 2019 season. But they then suffered a disappointing 37-30 loss to the Stuttgart Scorpions.
The Dukes have alternated at quarterback between Anthony Gardner and Cedric Townsend and last week Gardner was still hurt so Townsend got the nod in the loss to Marburg throwing for only 131 yards. So far this year, Gardner has thrown for 554 yards and four touchdowns.
As a team, the Dukes have rushed for 401 yards in four games.
This one is a toss up although with a slight edge to the Comets who are playing at home.
