LIVESTREAM: Germany – Hildesheim Invaders @Cologne Crocodiles #12, June 2, 5p (11a EST)
The Cologne Crocodiles (2-0-1), Europe #12, play host to the winless Hildesheim Invaders (0-3) at Sportpark Höhenberg Köln, Saturday June 2 in a game which both teams need desperately to win.
The Crocodiles opened the season with two straight wins but were held to a 22-22 tie by the Kiel Baltic Hurricanes, a team they had beaten handily in the season’s first game. Meanwhile, the Invaders have been blown out of two games (Potsdam Royals and New Yorker Lions) and beaten decisively by the Berlin Rebels in their last outing.
The last time these two teams met was in the final game of the 2017 German Football League regular season when the Invaders beat Cologne 30-11. The Crocodiles won the first game of 2017 against Hildesheim.
Cologne enters the game with the seventh best offense (32 pts game) and seventh best defense (25.7) in the league. Hildesheim’s anemic offense has managed just 8 points a game while the defense has given up 46, last in the GFL.
Cologne quarterback Bradley Strauss is averaging 212.5 yards a game. Crocodiles running back Shayeen Edwards leads the GFL in average yards per game with 126. He has scored six touchdowns in three games. Shazzon Mumphrey has struggled at quarterback for the Invaders and has thrown for 421 yards and two touchdowns while rushing for 97 and scoring a touchdown on the ground.
