LIVESTREAM: Germany – Hildesheim Invaders @Berlin Rebels, Sunday, Sept. 9, 3p (9a ET)
The Hildesheim Invaders (4-9) wind up the 2018 German Football League season in Berlin, facing the 10-3 Berlin Rebels in the final game of the season for both teams.
With a win over Hildesheim, the Rebels will finish second in the GFL North and thus earn home field advantage in the playoffs.
Hildesheim, who were knocked out of playoff contention a few weeks ago, will be looking to avenge an earlier 31-17 loss to the Rebels.
Berlin downed the Hamburg Huskies a week ago 24-7 for their sixth win in the past seven games. Berlin was flying high after handing the Braunschweig New Yorker Lions their second defeat two weeks ago, beating them 23-14. Quarterback Terrell Robinson rushed for 168 yards, confounding the powerful Lions defense time and again.
The Rebels have relied on their defense this year and are one of the top defensive teams in the German Football League, sitting fourth giving up 16.2 points and 297 yards a game.
Holland’s Sean Richard leads the Rebels in rushing and he is fifth in the league with 921 yards and 12 touchdowns. Although he had struggled for a few games, last week against Hamburg, he rushed for 177 yards and two touchdowns. Quarterback Terrell Robinson is the wild card as he can explode both in the air and on the ground. So far, he has 643 yards rushing while also passing for 2,153 yards and 17 TDs. Richard is also the leading receiver for Berlin with 584 yards receiving.
Hildesheim has only won one of their last four games and has suffered from uncertainty at the quarterback position. Shazzon Murphy, who had started the year at quarterback, was replaced partway through the season by Tyler Johnson, but then returned to start the last two games, a 31-21 win over the last-place Hamburg Huskies and a 40-3 drubbing at the hands of the Dresden Monarchs.
