LIVESTREAM: Germany – Dusseldorf Panther @Potsdam Royals, Sat. May 18, 4:30p CEDT (10:30a EDT)
The Dusseldorf Panther (0-2) will try to find the win column today in Potsdam, Germany against the 1-1 Potsdam Royals in German Football League third round action.
This is the first season in the German Football League for the Panthers since 2016 and they have struggled out of the gate. They opened the season on the road losing to the Dresden Monarchs 49-13. Then last week, they suffered a similar fate, dropping a 49-17 decision to the Hildesheim Invaders.
The Royals dropped their opening game to the Hildesheim Invaders, losing 50-28, but rebounded last week in beating the Berlin Rebels 30-17.
Quarterback Christian Strong (Seton Hill) has completed 51 of 96 passes for 597 yards and two touchdowns with Féli Manoka as his leading receiver with 201 yards. However, the running game is virtually non-existent for Dusseldorf as they gained a total of 74 yards on the ground.
Potsdam head coach Michael Vogt saw his quarterback Jacob Tucker step up throwing for 235 yards and a touchdown after he lost his starting QB Cody Williams suddenly before the first game of the season. Wide receiver Keevan Lucas has had 213 yards receiving in two games and is a dangerous target. Running back Gennadiy Adams has given the Royals a rushing attack and has carried the ball 32 times for 176 yards and 3 TDs. Another key addition has been LB Dustin Illetschko who anchors a formidable front seven. He has already recorded 19 tackles in two games as he and his teammates showed last week in holding the Berlin Rebels to only 22 yards rushing, they are very tough to run against.
This will be another long afternoon for Dusseldorf unless head coach John Leijten can get his aerial attack in sync.
