LIVESTREAM: Germany – Dresden Monarchs @Cologne Crocodiles, Sat. May 25, 5p CEDT (11a EDT)
The Dresden Monarchs (2-0) will be looking to stay unbeaten when they travel to Cologne, Germany to play the winless (0-3) Cologne Crocodiles in German Football League play.
The Monarchs are coming off of two straight wins, 49-13 over the Dusseldorf Panther and 42-14 over the Kiel Baltic Hurricanes. Meanwhile, Cologne has dropped three straight losing to the Braunschweig New Yorker Lions 23-6 and 45-7 and then losing 31-14 to the Hildesheim Invaders.
Dresden won both encounters between the two in 2018, 58-27 and 24-7.
For Cologne, QB Jan Weinreich has thrown for 275 yards and two touchdowns but has been picked off four times. RB Colby Goodwyn, who was the 2nd leading rusher in the GFL with Hamburg in 2018, has 270 yards rushing so far. He will be needed today to test a Monarchs front seven that is ranked as the 2nd best in the GFL giving up 32 yards rushing per game.
Dresden looked as good in the wins over the Panther and Hurricanes as they did in 2018. The Monarchs challenged for the North conference title in 2018 and came oh so close, playing Braunschweig to a tie in the final regular season game of the year. They lost a tough semifinal game to the Unicorns.
Monarchs quarterback Zach Greenlee leads the GFL in yards per game, 382, and has thrown eight touchdown passes. His leading target is Kevonn Mabon who has 21 receptions for 397 yards and three touchdowns and leads the league in receiving yards per game. British RB Glen Toonga has rushed for 98 yards and one touchdown in two games while Greenlee has scored four touchdowns on the ground. Linebacker AJ Wentland leads a ferocious Dresden defense and is again the leading tackler in the GFL and already has 30.
The Crocodiles tough opening schedule has not gotten any better and they will be in tough today against a Dresden team that looks to be in midseason form already.
