LIVESTREAM: Germany – Cologne Crocodiles @Hildesheim Invaders, Sunday, May 19, 4p CEDT (10a EDT)
The Hildesheim Invaders (2-0) will look to keep their unbeaten streak alive when the 0-2 Cologne Crocodiles pay a visit Sunday, May 19 in German Football League early season action.
The much-improved Invaders have won their two opening games by lopsided scores beating the Potsdam Royals 50-28 and then taking care of the Dusseldorf Panther 49-17.
The Crocodiles dropped both their opening games, back-to-back matchups with the Braunschweig New Yorker Lions, 23-6 and 45-7.
Invaders quarterback Casey Therriault, in his first game back in the GFL in two years, shook the rust off early in the opening game, throwing for 475 yards and five touchdowns while rushing for another. In Hildesheim’s second game against Dusseldorf, he tossed 6 TD passes throwing for 393 yards. So far in the two games he has also rushed for 105 yards and a touchdown. Wide receivers Jaleel Awini (208 yds, 4 TDs), Nathaniel Morris (378 yds, 4 TDs) and Anthony Dablé-Wolf (250 yds, 3 TDs) have been explosive.
For Cologne, QB Jan Weinreich has thrown for 275 yards and two touchdowns but has been picked off four times. RB Colby Goodwyn, who was the 2nd leading rusher in the GFL with Hamburg in 2018, has 132 yards rushing so far. He will be needed today to test an Invaders front seven that is ranked as the sixth best in the GFL giving up 77.5 yards rushing per game.
This game could get out of hand early if the Crocodiles are not careful. If they con contain Therriault early to give the offense more time on the field, they will have a chance.
