LIVESTREAM GERMANY: Braunschweig New Yorker Lions @ Potsdam Royals, August 28, 16:45 CET (4:45 pm, 10:45 am ET)
The Braunschweig New Yorker Lions (4-4) travel east to visit the Potsdam Royals (7-1) in this matchup of GFL North playoff contenders.
These two teams met back in June with the Royals dominating the Lions 50-3 in Braunschweig. Since then, the Lions have added several new players and come into today’s matchup eager for redemption.
The Lions are coming off of a blowout 39-14 victory at home against the Kiel Baltic Hurricanes. In that game, quarterback, Jake Kennedy looked in rhythm throwing three touchdowns while adding two more scores on the ground. Kennedy has been able to build chemistry with Italian talent Jordan Bouah quickly. On the ground, Braunschweig will look to pound the rock against this talented Potsdam defense. Fans can expect both CJ Okpalobi jr and Exavier Edwards to get carries today behind a massive Lions offensive line.

The Lions’ defense will need to stop the run to beat Potsdam today. Linebackers David Mueller and Fillipo Fort need to be able to wrap up and tackle against the leagues leading rusher Jake Mayon. On the backend, Marcel Gaal, Darrain Winston, and Eric Jackson will look to take away big plays from the Potsdam offense.
Potsdam’s offense did just enough to win last week as the Royals squeaked out a 27-26 in Cologne last week. Running back Jake Mayon leads the charge for the Potsdam offense putting up an impressive 167 yards a game. The quarterback carousel however continues for Potsdam as both Giovanni Resigno and PJ Settles both played last week as the passing game left much to be desired. The Royals will need to find a rhythm in the passing game as they face a Lions defense that will be keying in on the run.
Defensively, the Royals will look to bring down athletic passer Jake Kennedy. Fans can anticipate OJ Thompson to be screaming off the edge and causing havoc. Thompson has put up an impressive seven sacks this season. Linebacker Lukas Ruoss is a key player to watch today against a run-heavy Lions team. The Swiss talent leads the way for the Royals with 33 tackles, four sacks, and an interception. Expect Ruoss to be flying side-line to side-line as the Lions will use their running back often.
This is one of the best matchups of the weekend as both teams are eager to prove themselves on national television. The Lions enter the field determined to show that the 2019 champs are back and as good as ever. Across the field, Potsdam has shown they are a talented squad but will need to become a complete team to become a true title contender.
