The Hamburg Huskies (0-2) are playing their third game of the year May 5 as they play host to 11-time German champion the Braunschweig New Yorker Lions (0-0) who are making their 2018 debut in the German Football League.
Hamburg has opened the 2018 GFL season with two straight losses dropping a 24-0 decision to the Berlin Rebels on the road in Berlin and then losing to the Kiel Baltic Hurricanes 24-14 a week ago.
Quarterback Quentin Williams has thrown for 217 yards in two games and rushed for 53 yards while running back Colby Goodwyn has gained 52 yards rushing. Young receiver Tobias Nill leads the team with a total of 65 yards receiving. In other words, Hamburg’s offense will be under pressure in a game against one of the best defenses in Germany in 2017.

The Lions have played two international games in the Big6/Eurobowl tournament, scraping by the La Courneuve Flash from Paris 10-6 and then overwhelming Holland’s Amsterdam Crusaders 60-0 last week.
New quarterback Jadrian Clark threw six touchdown passes (all in the first half to set a club record) in the blowout win over Amsterdam and is finding his rhythm after struggling somewhat against the Flash in his very first game with the Lions. Braunschweig’s running game features two quality backs in Lennies McFerren and veteran David McCants, both of whom can be difference makers on the field. Clark’s favorite target in the win against the Crusaders was Christian Bollman, who caught two touchdown passes. The Lions may have lost the services of one of the league’s leading receivers, Niklas Römer who suffered a concussion last week.

This will be a tough game for Hamburg who are in danger of falling too far behind in the tough German Football League North division.
