The 4-0 Braunschweig New Yorker Lions will put their undefeated record on the line as they host the 3-2 Berlin Rebels on Sunday’s only German Football League matchup.
One of three undefeated teams in the GFL, the Lions have dominated every matchup thus far, thanks in part to their strong defensive performances.
Braunschweig’s defense has conceded just 11.8 points-per-game and a ridiculous 22.5 rushing yards-per-game, while also leading in turnovers with seven interceptions and three fumble recoveries. Defensive back Matthew Solder (USA) has claimed four of those interceptions, positioning him first in the league.
Of course, it’s impossible to write about the New Yorker Lions without bringing up British running back D’wayne Obi, who has taken the GFL by storm, putting up an impressive 466 yards and five touchdowns – including a spectacular week two 200-yard performance against the Paderborn Dolphins.

The Rebels are coming off a somewhat surprising loss against the Dolphins, falling 16-8 for their second straight loss.
Offensively, Berlin have experienced struggles recently, with a few subpar performances from Connor Kaegi at quarterback, who has had two consecutive games under 45% completions. Kaegi holds a TD:INT ratio of 8:7 and is averaging just shy of 170 yards-per-game on 54% completions.
The Rebels have also been unable to get the run game going, with running backs Tyrese Johnson-Fisher and Tom Heyroth seeing big drops in numbers throughout the season.
The Rebels have had some strong defensive performers and have been solid overall. Max Forsback and Robert Kendall lead the squad in tackles with 27.0, while Kendall has also been roaming the secondary, snagging two interceptions.
The Rebels will look to upset the current top seed in the GFL as they travel to face the New Yorker Lions on Sunday.
