LIVESTREAM Germany: Allgäu Comets @ Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns, June 18, 16:45 CET (4:45 pm, 10:45 am ET)
The Allgäu Comets (1-1) head into arguably the toughest place to play football for visiting teams today, June 18 when they travel to Optima Sportpark in Schwäbisch Hall to take on the unbeaten Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns (3-0) as the German Football League rolls into the fifth round of action.
The last time these two met, in 2021, the Unícorns came away with a 33-21 win.
Schwäbisch Hall have surprised no one so far this season having all their GFL games by lopsided scores. They opened the season whipping the Saarland Hurricanes, last year’s second place team in the GFL South, 48-14. They followed that up with a 55-19 manhandling of the Ravensburg Razorbacks and last week whipped the Straubing Spiders 41-13. The Comets ran up the score last week against the Ravensburg Razorbacks beating them 48-20 after dropping their opening game against the Spiders, 43-42.
For the Unicorns, quarterback Reilly Hennessey has been superb completing 41 of 55 passes (74.5%) for 763 yards and nine touchdowns. His favorite target so far has been Tyler Rutenbeck who has 14 catches for 287 yards and five of those touchdowns. The rest of the receiving corps includes Julian Annerwall who has 12 receptions for 203 yards, as well as former NFL receiver Mortitz Böhringer who has six catches for 131 yards and two scores. The Schwäbisch Hall ground game has also been impressive with Lars Kozlowski rushing for 243 yards on 2 8carries (8.7 yds/carry) and Mike Alfieri with 36 carries for 269 yards and three scores.
The Unicorns defense has been the tough against the run after three games in the GFL allowed an average of 85.7 yards while Allgäu is averaging only 79 yards rushing a game.
Allgäu last year made the playoffs after finishing fourth in the GFL South and after last week’s impressive showing against the Razorbacks, will be looking forward to the challenge. Comets quarterback Kenyatte Allen Jr., had a decent showing in his first game, completing 25 of 38 of his passes for 266 yards and five touchdowns.
