LIVESTREAM: Germany – Allgäu Comets @Munich Cowboys, Sept. 1, 4p (10a ET)
The Munich Cowboys (5-7) welcome the 7-5 Allgäu Comets to Dante Stadion in Munich, Germany in a crucial game in the German Football League South division.
The battle for third and four place in the conference comes down to this game.
The Allgäu Comets are third and the Munich Cowboys are sitting in fourth at 5-7 while the Marburg Mercenaries are fifth also at 5-7.
Allgäu has two games remaining, against the Cowboys and then Frankfurt. A win today would secure third place for the Comets while Munich in that case would have to beat the Stuttgart Scorpions in their final game and hope that Marburg loses their last two games.
Should Allgäu lose to Munich (they have already lost to the Cowboys earlier this year, 31-28) and then also to Frankfurt, Munich could finish third but the Cowboys would have to also defeat the Scorpions in the final game of the regular season on September 8. Meanwhile, Marburg, although in a slump, still has a shot. They face the Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns and then the Ingolstadt Dukes. If they win both of those games and Munich beats the Comets, the Mercenaries wind up fourth and in the playoffs. However, if the Comets beat Munich, they finish third no matter what happens in the last game against Frankfurt.
So if all three finish with a record of 7-7, Marburg would be third, Munich fourth and the Comets out of the playoffs.
Comets QB Justin Sottilare is the overall German Football League passing leader with 3,917 yards and a league-best 41 TDs although he only had 88 yards passing in a loss to the Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns two weeks ago. Sottilare has set a record for passing attempts in a game (84 against the Dukes), and still leads the GFL in average yards per game with 343.4. His receiving corps of Jordan Paul (3rd, 1,175 yds) , Martin Emos (8th, 860 yds), Jonatan Gihl (768 yds) and Féli Manoka (823 yds) are among the top 15 in Germany.
Munich quarterback Trenton Miller is averaging 254 yards passing per game, third best among all quarterbacks. However, he is the entire offense as the Cowboys running game is anemic averaging just 31.5 yards a game, dead last in Germany. Wide receiver, Kai Silbermann is the fourth leading receiver in Germany in overall yardage with 1,018 yards on 70 catches.
