The 2-1 Allgäu Comets, Europe #20, and their incredible “Flying Circus” make the trip to Stuttgart, Germany June 2, to take on the winless Stuttgart Scorpions (0-5) in German Football League action.
The Comets have raised eyebrows with an aerial attack without equal in the GFL so far this season. In averaging 467.7 yards in passing so far this season, Allgäu is on pace to shatter records in Germany. After losing their first game against the defending champion Schwabisch Hall Unicorns, the Comets scored 108 points in the last two games beating the Ingolstadt Dukes and Stuttgart. Quarterback Justin Sottilare has grown comfortable with an offense that does not use a running game and with four receivers among the top five in receptions per game, the Comets look to continue their aerial dominance.
Sottilare, who set records three weeks by attempting 84 passes in Allgäu’s win over the Ingolstadt Dukes, was throwing passes with surgical precision against the Scorpions two weeks ago, and in just over a half of football completed 29 of 32 passes (91%) for 508 yards and seven touchdowns. His backup, Calvin Stitt took over in the third quarter and threw for 61 yards and another touchdown.
Stuttgart enters this game badly in need of a win. They have managed to score just 50 points in five games while giving up 199. With their third quarterback in five games in Michael Eubank, Stuttgart looks to right a ship that is badly listing a third of the way into the season.
