LIVESTREAM: Germany – #9 Dresden Monarchs @Kiel Baltic Hurricanes, June 16, 4p (10a EST)
The 5-1 Dresden Monarchs, Europe #9, head to Kiliat Stadion in Kiel, Germany June 16 to face arch rivals, the 3-4-1 Kiel Baltic Hurricanes in a key German Football League North matchup.
The Hurricanes are on a two game winning streak after opening the season by losing four of their first six games. Last week, they earned their most important win of the season so far beating the Berlin Revels in Berlin 28-24. This was the same Berlin team that trounced the Monarchs 30-7 two weeks ago.
Dresden atoned for that loss to the Rebels with a 35-0 shutout of the Hildesheim Invaders a week ago.
These two teams met just under a month ago with Dresden dominating the Hurricanes 56-21.
Dresden comes into the game with the third best offense averaging 37.8 yards a game and the fifth leading defense giving up 19.2 yards per contest. The Hurricanes offense has improved over the last few games and in their last two outings has outscored opponents 76-37.
Monarchs quarterback Trenton Norvell has moved up to 2nd in passing in the GFL after throwing for 357 yards against Hildesheim. He now has 1,762 yards and 20 TDs. Wide receiver Mitchell Paige of the Monarchs has caught 52 passes for 784 yards and a league-leading 12 TDs and remains the league leader in Germany.
Monarchs linebacker AJ Wentland is a tackling machine and with 9 tackles last week again tops the GFL with a whopping 79 tackles in six games. He has had two games of 20+ tackles.
New Kiel quarterback Lenorris Footman is having an impact on the Hurricanes offense. In last week’s win over Berlin, he completed almost 80% of his passes throwing for 133 yards and a touchdown. He has rushed for 229 yards in his four games while scoring seven touchdowns.
Julian Ampaw of the Hurricanes remains is the fourth leading rusher, now with 416 while teammate Khris Francis has moved up into the 5th spot with 396 yards after rushing for 111 yards in last week’s big win over the Berlin Rebels.
With a big crowd expected at Kilia Stadion in Kiel, the Hurricanes have a chance in this one. They will be playing with more confidence than in the last game and a sense of urgency. The Monarchs cannot look at the Hurricanes record or even the score of the last game between the two teams.
This one is a toss up.
