The Braunschweig New Yorker Lions (1-0) Europe #2 play their home opener of the German Football League regular season Saturday, May 12 when they take on the visiting 1-2 Kiel Baltic Hurricanes (Europe #18) at Eintracht Stadium in Braunschweig.
These two teams faced each twice in 2017 with the Lions coming out on top both times, 44-26 and 33-22.
Braunschweig, 11-time German champions, opened the GFL season a week ago shutting out the Hamburg Huskies 45-0. Kiel has lost to the Cologne Crocodiles (32-14) and Berlin Rebels (17-6) while also beating the Huskies (24-14).
Against Hamburg, Lions quarterback Jadrian Clark threw for 248 yards and four touchdowns. Wide receiver Christian Bollmann caught seven passes for 136 yards and two touchdowns. Running back Lennies McFerren rushed 11 times for 123 yards and two touchdowns.
Under new head coach Dan Disch, the Hurricanes have struggled to get their offense in gear. New quarterback Clayton Turner, who has thrown for 509 yards, is still working to get in sync with his receivers Benedikt Englmann (135 yards), Digeo Sanchez (117 yards), Jean-Claude Madin Cerezo (97 yards) along with Tim Albrecht and Kwame Ofori . Running back Julian Ampaw has gained 171 yards and scored two rushing touchdowns in three games.
Against the Huskies, Kiel ran up 432 yards in offense giving up 209. The Lions totaled 536 yards in offense against Hamburg while allowing them 173.
