This Saturday sees three German Football League matchups as we enter the first round of the playoffs. Among the matchups is what is sure to be a high-scoring offensive showdown between the Dresden Monarchs (10-2) and the Saarland Hurricanes (9-3).

Dresden finished second in the GFL North while the Hurricanes placed third in the South.

The Monarchs are coming off an incredibly successful season, going 10-2 in the regular season and finishing second in the league in total offense and points. Led by quarterback Steven Duncan, Dresden have racked up a whopping 487 points over their 12 games. Duncan has had an almost perfect season, leading the league in completions (285), yards (3,983) and touchdowns (51) while throwing just seven interceptions. Most recently, they handed the Paderborn Dolphins a 50-14 loss to close out the regular season. With the absence of the league’s premier wideout Austin Mitchell, running back Nico Barrow took the spotlight. Barrow put up insane numbers, recording 931 rushing yards on 145 attempts, alongside 47 receptions for 506 yards with a total of five touchdowns.

Similarly, the Hurricanes have had one of the most dominant offensive units in the league. Quarterback Robby Rowell has led the offense to be the third highest scoring in the league, averaging 38.75 points per game. Rowell has been the most dominant dual-threat quarterback in the league this season, holding a top five spot in passing yards and touchdowns while being a top three rusher and leading the league in rushing touchdowns. The ex-Cal Golden Bear finished the season with 3,176 passing yards and 919 rushing yards, with 50 total touchdowns.

The last matchup between the two teams saw the Monarchs take a 62-32 home win, with Steven Duncan setting the single-game passing touchdown record with a mind-boggling nine scores. Look for another high-scoring matchup on Saturday as the Hurricanes look for an upset on the road.
