The Potsdam Royals (5-0) and Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns (6-0) will clash in a rematch of the 2023 German Bowl Saturday, July 13 at Sportpark Luftschiffhafen in Potsdam.
Potsdam defeated the Unicorns 34-7 to capture the 2023 German title.
Potsdam has looked impressive so far this year beating the Hildesheim Invaders 56-21, Berlin Adler 58-0, Kiel Baltic Hurricanes 56-23 and the Berlin Rebels 74-20. They then used a strong second half to defeat the second place Dresden Monarchs 40-19 two weeks ago.
The Unicorns, while unbeaten in their six games, were pushed hard in their last three getting by the Ravensburg Razorbacks 31-28, the Munich Cowboys, 42-35 and the Straubing Spiders 24-21 last week.
Similar to the tune of the 2023 season, the secret to success for the Royals is through their offense and signal caller Jaylon Henderson. Just to show how dominant Potsdam has been, they are the only team to score 50+ points in the majority of their games this season and are averaging almost 57 points a game. The QB/WR duo of Jaylon Henderson and Brenden Beaulieu has been dominating the league so far. Through their five games, Henderson and Beaulieu have connected for 11 scores and 626 yards. Henderson is the GFL in passing touchdowns (30), second in yards per game (366.4) and first in completion percentage with an absurd 82.2%.
Schwäbisch Hall quarterback Conor Miller, who is in his fifth season in Europe, is the seventh leading passer in the GFL having thrown for 1.266 and 21 touchdowns against four interceptions. His favorite target is Magnus Bumiller with 26 catches for 334 yards and five touchdowns while Jason-Matthew Sharsh has 23 receptions for 409 yards and nine scores. Veteran running back Mike Gentili leads the league averaging 112.4 yards per game on 562 total yards and five touchdowns in five games after missing the game against the Munich Cowboys.
The Royals are playing at home for the third straight game and have dominated opponents. This will be a tough one for Schwäbisch Hall.
